· Historical growth and development of Adult Education
· Context of Adult Education
· Adult Education and the Community
The module will assist you to develop your capacity to theorise about adult education by gaining knowledge about:
· Some of the significant developments and broad trends in adult education
· the basic concepts and terminology of adult education
· the theories and educational philosophies of selected educational thinkers
· The ideological values which inform adult education philosophies and practice
· The social, economic, political, religious and cultural context within which adult education occurs in South Africa and the world today
· the developments in adult education policies and practices in post-apartheid South Africa
· key issues in the debate on adult education and development
