The Introduction to Human Resource
Management (HRM) module exposes the student to the theories and practices of
human resources (HR). It encompasses an
overview of the meaning of the concept, the purpose of HRM, the South African
economy and its effects on HR and the challenges faced by HR. The learner is taught the systems approach in
terms of the organisation and the individual, and the team as a system. Areas covered during this semester-long
module include diagnostic problem solving, job analysis, job descriptions,
person specifications, human resource planning, recruitment, selection,
managing employee performance, compensation management, training and
development and training legislation. HR trends will also be incorporated into
the course.
